After their bullpen imploded Monday night, the Mets made an interesting move Tuesday. They called up fireballing righthander Gerson Bautista from Double-A Binghamton. The Mets optioned erratic reliever Hansel Robles to make room in the bullpen.

The 22-year-old, who the Mets acquired last summer when they dealt Addison Reed to the Red Sox, features a 100-mile-an-hour fastball with inconsistent control. He has tossed 5.0 scoreless innings for Binghamton with 11 strikeouts over three games this year. He has allowed two hits and has not permitted a walk.

He was a pitcher the Mets said could move fast through the system after watching him this spring. He worked 5.2 innings in Spring Training this year, allowing seven hits and four runs (6.35 ERA), issing four walks and striking out eight.

Robles was 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in eight games with the Mets this season.
