ESPN developing ‘Pardon My Take’ show for Barstool Sports podcast

ESPN is entering the world of late night TV.

On the same day the network announced it was hiring former FS1 show host Katie Nolan, Awful Announcing reported that ESPN is nearing a deal with Barstool Sports to create a “Pardon My Take” show.

The program would air weekly on ESPN2 and not affect the “Pardon My Take” podcast, according to the report.

The sports/comedy podcast, hosted by Dan Katz (Big Cat) and PFTCommenter, was launched by Barstool in February of 2016.

Katie Nolan hired by ESPN

Shortly after its inception, “Pardon My Take” received a cease and desist letter from ESPN, which claimed the name and logo of the podcast broke the trademark of “First Take” and “Pardon The Interruption.”

That seemed to help the show’s popularity. Just months later, Big Cat and PFTCommenter were guests on the Scott Van Pelt-hosted primetime edition of SportsCenter.

The podcast reportedly pulls in between 750,000 and 2 million listeners per episode.

Big Cat and PFTCommenter have not found themselves embroiled in any controversies outside of the ESPN legal issue, which is somewhat of a rarity at Barstool Sports, as the company has dealt with issues ranging from employees and show guests making racists remarks to bloggers fat shaming celebrities in the past.
