Comey’s wife tells how she was ‘devastated’ at Trump’s victory

Former FBI Director James Comey’s wife was a Hillary Clinton backer ‘devastated’ by her defeat – and she even joined the informal resistance to Trump‘s stunning election.

Patrice Failor Comey spells out her clear preference in the election many critics say her husband helped tilt in the same bombshell ABC interview where Comey talks about Trump’s hair and skin tone and says he doesn’t know if the president us under the sway of the Russians.

‘I wanted a woman president really badly, and I supported Hillary Clinton,’ she told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in a brief clip concluded in the prime-time piece on her husband’s first interview since President Trump fired him.

‘A lot of my friends worked for her. And I was devastated when she lost,’ she added.

The Comey children were also ready for Hillary.

‘Oh yeah,’ Comey said, asked about his wife’s support for Clinton. ‘I didn’t take a poll among all the kids, but I’m pretty sure that at least my four daughters, probably all five of my kids, wanted Hillary Clinton to be the first woman president.’

‘I know my amazing spouse did. My wife and girls marched in the women’s march the day after President Trump’s inauguration,’ he said.

The network flashed a photo of Patrice and the Comey daughters taking part in the march that drew hundreds of thousands of protesters the day after Trump’s inauguration.

But Comey said he tried to do his job without concern for how it might play at home – and referenced the tension and pressure he felt over the Clinton email probe,

‘There was a lot of passion in this house for Hillary Clinton,’ Comey continued.  And I– I get that. But again, I hope it illustrates to people that I really wasn’t making decisions based on political fortunes.’

‘She knew enough, Patrice, the pain that I was in that – and how hard these decisions were that I don’t think she spent a lotta time – I think she got actually where I was … She expressed frustration,’ he said of his college sweetheart at William & Mary college in Virginia.

‘She hated the fact that I had to make these decisions, and ’cause she loves me dearly, she hated the fact that I personally was stepping in front of the institutions to get shot repeatedly. She would say, ‘Look, I get what you’re doing. I get that you’re trying to protect the institutions,’ Comey said.

Comey is promoting his new book, ‘A Higher Loyalty.’
