Hello there, and welcome to our live (written) coverage of Man City vs Everton, Guardiola vs Ancelotti, Ederson vs Pickford.
Everton’s manager isn’t entirely convinced his team stands much of a chance:
“I think that the games against City are not going to decide our ambition. Our ambition is still the same, to reach Europe at the end of the season,” he said this week.
“It does not matter what happens against City. It is easier to think that we are going to lose against City, but in football, you never know.
“We have the confidence to do well but also if we do lose, our target is not going to change. We have time to reach the target next month.”
Everton are a place below arch rivals Liverpool with three points separating the teams. They also have two games in hand and should they win this match, could easily jump above them into sixth place.
Judging by City’s form, that’s unlikely. Guardiola’s had other things on his mind this week and has been addressing the risk that sending players on international duty poses when there’s another round of fixtures next month.
“The Premier League should be concerned about this,” said Guardiola.
“The only way to be protected from this virus is to stay at home and social distance. No contact, don’t travel, don’t move. Now the players are going to their national teams and it is difficult afterwards to control it. So, unfortunately, something is going to rise.
“I would love to say it is not going to happen but from experience, it happened in two or three waves already. If you move, you take a risk to be contaminated.”
We won’t be discussing coronavirus during our liveblog though and the actual match kick off at 8:15pm.
