It’s back! Champions League football is back! Finally we get to see Lionel Messi and Neymar doing their thing on our TVs, the reason we all have them in the first place. It will be wonderful.

Liverpool are playing against some German team in the other game of the night but our eyes, or those in this liveblog, will be firmly fixed on Messi and his wonderful assortment of Barcelona friends.

Speaking of, they are eight points behind Atletico Madrid in La Liga at the moment in something of a transitional year under Ronald Koeman. The players and the fans all want to win trophies but there’s a little bit more going on behind the scenes at the moment – Barcelona basically don’t have any money left. They really might be in a bit of financial trouble, as Sam Wallace reveals here:

PSG are slightly better off and don’t need to worry too much about how much is in the bank, and are entirely intent on winning their first Champons League trophy. Could this be the year? They came close last season with a place in the final, eventually losing to one of the great Bayern Munich teams, and got rid of Thomas Tuchel earlier this season to bring in Mauricio Pochettino. He plays Kylian Mbappe on the left rather than the right. It seems to be working.

We’ll know more about this game when the starting lineups are announced but until then all you really need to do is that kick off is 8pm and we are providing live written updates throughout. Enjoy!
